The three-week Aviation English course has been designed to improve your English language skills and Aviation knowledge using a blend of realistic and accurate aircraft/airport information.  You will take part in pair and group work to develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.

Overview

A General and Aviation English Language course consisting of five days of lessons per week in our Dublin academy. The course includes a project to be presented on the final day of class.​​

Objective

The learning outcomes are closely linked to the ‘can do’ descriptors of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Entry Requirements

Learners should have a minimum of an A2 level on the CEFR.

Course details

By the end of this module students will be able to: 


✓ Use and understand the ICAO alphabet, phraseology, and imperatives


✓ Identify detail in Radiotelephony dialogues


✓ Detail parts of an aircraft and of an airfield


✓ Anticipate problems that airfields encounter with animals


✓ Identify some in-flight emergencies and how to deal with them


✓ Listen for gist and analysis to miscommunication incidents

By the end of this module students will be able to:  


✓ Describe and identify types of clouds and their formation



✓ Identify and discuss the principles of flight (forces on a plane, stall, aspect ratio)



✓ Distinguish and discuss aircraft operational terminology



✓ Recognize and discuss terminology relating to airframes (Stresses)



✓ Discuss the phases of a flight



✓ Describe and discuss the aircraft primary and secondary controls



✓ Recognize parts of and discuss the operation of piston engines



✓ Identify the hazard to flying from extreme weather conditions



✓ Discuss the chain of events leading up to and including an aircraft accident



✓ Interpret incidents and compile technical reports

By the end of this module students will be able to: 


✓ Identify and understand the basic aircraft instruments



✓ Understand the actions needed during a technical malfunction



✓ Describe pictures using different adjectives



✓ Understand and discuss events leading up to an aircraft incident



✓ Identify parts of and understand the workings of helicopters and Autogyros



✓ Identify parts and discuss the operation of a gas turbine engine



✓ Understand the needs of pre-flighting an aircraft prior to flying



✓ Identify design criteria of different aircraft
